Sermon Outlines
Caught up in the trappings of modern
day Christianity, we can often see "outward signs" of belief or profession, such
as trinkets of jewelry, bumper stickers, clothing, and sadly enough...tattoos,
in many congregations or gatherings of "Christians".
The Psalmist painted a vivid image of
the importance of the Word of God to every true believer, and how we should
"infuse" our entire being with it.
"Thy word have I hid in mine heart,
that I might not sin against thee."
{Psa 119:11}
“Thy word have I hid in mine heart.”
Just as the Psalmist proclaims, we don't need to wear a "verse" on our heart as
a charm, or on our bodies as a tattoo, but instead consume the Word of God with
a never ending hunger, while storing it in our hearts.
Mind you, wearing jewelry or a charm
does not in itself "disqualify" your faith or beliefs...but when your actions
are in contradiction to the emblem which proclaims your faith or belief, you
bring mockery to the sacrificial gift of our Lord and Saviour.
Think about it...how many times have
you been "cut off" on the road by a car with a "Ichthys" {ik-this} on the back.
You saw that "fish", and wondered..."Christian"...probably not.
The admonition of the Psalmist is
clear..."hide the word in your heart", so that you "might not sin against God."
The best
thing, the Word of God, is hidden in the best
place, our Heart...for the best
purpose...to keep from sinning against the Almighty.
Clearly we are taught, or
we should be
taught through proper study of the Word of God, that all fall short of His
glory, and are capable of sin...capable of sinning. However, if we spend
QUALITY and QUANTITY time in His word, the propensity to sin becomes less and
less.
Christ gave an awesome example of
"Principled, Disciplined Living" when He declared the New Commandments were as
simple as;
"...Thou shalt love the Lord thy
God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like
unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."
{Mat 22:37-39}
While all appearances lead us to believe that any sin we commit
is against another individual, or system...in reality, all sin is a direct
violation and offense against God.
Consider the possibilities. How could you steal from
your neighbor without violating the commandment of our Lord...? How could you
commit Homosexuality and profess to love God with all of your heart...?
We would love to
share our voice with you.
